Summary

The Street Block (SB) / Village Cluster (VC) boundaries provide a common geographic system for the compilation of statistical data. Statistical data from the population census/by-census are produced using this basic system. Data requirements of different users can be met by converting data recorded on the basis of SB into the users' geographic system for their planning and operational purpose.

Description

The SB / VC is a geographic reference system demarcated by the Planning Department for the territory of Hong Kong. The SB/VC is the smallest planning unit in the Tertiary Planning Unit (TPU),and each SB/VC is identified by a unique two-digit number. In urban areas or new towns in the New Territories, each TPU is sub-divided into a number of SBs, usually following grids of streets. In rural areas, the remaining TPUs are sub-divided into VCs, following natural boundaries such as roads/streets and streams. Statistical data such as projected population is the key information usually affiliated to the TPU/SB/VC and is always requested by the Government departments for their business planning purposes.
