The data set is widely deployed for the purpose of facilitating the HKSAR Government and business enterprises in the private sectors to implement systems for community services; and decision supporting systems for administration, management and planning. How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

    Attribute accuracy is checked by manual comparison of the source with the hard copy print-out. The attribute items are also confined by the Item Definition and pre-defined feature type. In addition, DM software tests the attributes against a master set of valid attributes. The program will prohibit data writing to the data library and prompt a warning message if any deviation from the standard is found.

  2. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

    The spatial features of the small scale topographic data are mainly derived from the large scale topographic maps (e.g. 1:1000) with cartographic generalisation according to the respective map scales. The relevant attribute information is widely sourced from different government departments.

  3. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

    Polygon, line, point topology present.

    For the use of digital data, please refer to the “Terms and Conditions of Use” as stipulated in the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (https://portal.csdi.gov.hk/csdi-webpage/doc/TNC).
    Use_Constraints:
    The use of the data supplied under the licence shall be subject to the computer configuration, for the purposes and at the location as specified in the Licence Agreement. The digital data can be provided to other government departments and their consultants for internal use and project purpose respectively. Such data shall not be distributed in part or in whole and in whatever forms and media to a third party. The use of digital data is also subject to some conditions which can be obtained upon request.
